Mrs. Janie Choi established her first Irvine Kumon on Barranca in 1990, and established her second Irvine Kumon on Campus Dr in 2004.   She has 25 years of experience in Irvine education, and has dedicated her life to helping Irvine & OC students excel in their academics.  Today, Mrs. Choi is the most experienced and well regarded Kumon Instructor in Irvine and the immediate OC area.  Mrs. Choi has touched thousands of students' lives over the decades.

Mrs. Choi is married to Irvine Mayor Steven Choi, who is also an advocate for education in Irvine.  They have been living in Irvine for nearly 30 years.  Their two adult children are graduates of the Kumon program--Daniel is now an anesthesiologist at Cedars Sinai, and Michelle is a licensed attorney in California.

Michelle has 14 years of experience as a Kumon student at Janie's center- starting at 4 years old through high school.  After high school, Michelle received her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego with a major is Sociology and a minor in Law and Society.  During college, Michelle scored in the 98th percentile of the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and became an LSAT instructor for adult students.

After college, Michelle graduated from The University of Michigan Law School and went on to pass the California bar exam became a licensed attorney and a member of the California Bar.  Michelle practiced as a litigation attorney in Orange County before rediscovering her love and passion for education.

In 2013, Michelle left her law practice to pursue her passion in education.  She is now assisting her mother Janie with center management and instruction at Irvine Kumon.  Michelle is intimately involved with teaching and lesson planning for every individual student.
